Instilling a love of learning from the first opportunity...

The Heritage Christian Academy preschool program offers a full, fun-packed experience for your child. Spiritual growth, positive social behavior, and academic preparation are the primary goals.

Instructors carefully guide each child in enriching daily activities with happiness, enthusiasm and Christ's love. Children quickly learn that Christian love is not just talked about at Heritage, but it is practiced as well. We genuinely believe that every child is precious, and we communicate that daily.

It is wonderful to watch as these young children experience joy in discovering new things and as they develop an excitement for learning. Their creativity and imagination flourish. We want your child to develop to be the best he or she can be and to love coming to school! Your child is special to you, to us and to God. We look forward to working with you as a family. We welcome your interest and involvement.

We work diligently to create fun, meaningful and memorable experiences during the school year. Depending upon the age and developmental maturity level of the classes, our curriculum includes reading readiness, number and math concepts, beginning manuscript printing, colors, shapes, sizes and life concepts. Science and nature tables, cooking, drama, games and many creative activities keep the children interested and happy. A variety of visual aids, puppets and storybooks are used throughout the lessons.

Varied forms of art, including painting, coloring, cutting activities and craft projects as well as taking part in music and singing helps to build self-esteem. The children also participate in activities that foster development of small and large muscle coordination. Field trips, parties, special programs and guest visitors serve to expand the children's awareness of the world around them.

Bible and character-building stories, Bible verse memorization and prayer are an important part of our day.

Teachers and parents keep in close contact with each other through conferences and evaluative progress reports.

Spacious, modern classrooms have a maximum of 18 children per class with a teacher and an aide. A special fenced playground for use by just the preschool and pre-Kindergarten students provides a safe outdoor play area.

In addition to the Preschool classes listed below, HCA also offers the following:

  • Extended Child Care program is available from 7:00 AM to 8:15 AM and from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily. You pay by the hour so you only pay for the time you need.
  • Early childhood music classes are offered before or after school as there is demand.

CLASSES FOR 3 YEAR OLDS

(Age 3 by August 31st and potty trained)

The session provides a good balance between free time and structure. Children are encouraged to make friends, enjoy group participation, gain confidence in their abilities and learn to share their thoughts.

Being kind and being a good helper are valued.

The program's mascot fosters these qualities. "Do-Bee" is a furry, funny, little stuffed animal that lives in a beehive. He says, "Do be using your hands for kindness," and other phrases which teach Godly principles to the children.

Do-Bee introduces the theme of the day, tells jokes, gives kisses, does funny things, has surprises and invites the children to play a game with him to learn more about the theme of the day. Children of this age love suspense and drama. Do-Bee provides all that and more. He makes school so much fun!

Do-Bee has a special helper each day. Do-Bee even makes birthdays extra special! Do-Bee and friends introduce the children to colors, shapes, numbers, counting and the alphabet. Games such as fishing for letters and helping puppets find colors aid in learning.

CLASSES FOR 4 YEAR OLDS

(Age 4 by August 31st)

Children learn to enhance the many skills that they are now capable of doing. Small motor skills are developed with the ability to cut, use pencils, pound nails, pour, string beads, etc. Children at this age are eager to print their name and sound out letters that they see. Simple math and science projects are introduced. Children learn to follow directions, figure out story sequencing, and learn to track from left to right, develop kindergarten readiness skills, repeat clapping patterns and follow mazes.

There are numerous opportunities to cook, create and enjoy being messy. Large motor skills are encouraged with skipping, hopping, controlling balls, riding bikes, and climbing. Theme-based concepts cause children to think, ask questions, share thoughts, develop language skills and increase knowledge.

Solomon Owl is the program's mascot. Solomon is a friend to all and reinforces good character qualities and shares special Bible stories and verses.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN

(Age 5 by August 31st, but not quite ready for Kindergarten)

Pre-Kindergarten allows children to continue at their own rate of development while instilling confidence and maturity. Many children benefit from an extra year before entering the often fast paced requirements of Kindergarten. Children in Pre-K have the opportunity to gain more knowledge, a longer attention span, social readiness skills and large and small motor muscle control.

The curriculum offers: a review of letter recognition, sounds and printing, phonics, beginning reading, expanded art, science, cooking and environmental activities.

Our goal is to make each child in Pre-Kindergarten feel successful and ready to meet challenges with the readiness skills that they acquire in this class. Ferguson the Frog is the Pre-K mascot.
