Junior High (Grades 7th through 9th)

AN IMPORTANT TIME FOR YOUR CHILDREN

Junior high is a time of opportunity. Heritage junior high students have multiple opportunities for involvement in areas such as sports, honor society, worship team, etc. With a modest junior high enrollment, resulting in increased access to teachers, school resources, and a wide variety of activities, there is virtually no limit to the number of areas in which a student can be involved. This allows students to try any number of different avenues of exploration rather than being forced to concentrate and compete for what might be a single opening in any given area. The result is that students are encouraged to experience and try new things in order to clearly see where God has provided them with their true gifts and interests.

Junior high is a time of change, a time of finding out who we are and how we fit into God's plan. It is a time for work and study, fun and play, prayer and Bible study. Students mature mentally, spiritually, physically and socially. Learning, stretching, searching, experimenting with new roles and ideas, and challenges to commitment to Christ are all part of the junior high experience at HCA.

It takes a special type of teacher to know, love and teach junior high students. Professionals who are committed to Jesus Christ, to junior high students, and to their school are rare individuals. Heritage Christian Academy has those wonderful people to teach junior high students, preparing them for life as they move through adolescence into adulthood.

Heritage Christian Academy offers core classes of History, English, Science, Mathematics, Bible and a variety of elective classes. Electives include art, digital photography, ELL, PE, Spanish, study hall, study skills, teacher's aide and a combined yearbook/journalism class.

Extra-curricular activities are an important part of junior high life at HCA. Students at Heritage have the opportunity to participate in volleyball, basketball, track and soccer. Our "no-cut" policy assures that every student who turns out for a sport will play. HCA teams mainly compete against other Christian school teams, and students enjoy the opportunity to stretch themselves and apply the Christian principles of commitment, dedication, perseverance, excellence, humility and sacrifice. Students who are interested may join clubs and participate in National Junior Honor Society, Math Olympics, Young Authors, Musicals, and Geography and Spelling Bees.

The school year begins for our junior high students with a two-day retreat called Fall Away. Students, teachers, and administrators leave campus and travel to Island Lake for a time of fun, fellowship, and a call for commitment to Christ. Guest speakers and song leaders make this a truly enriching experience, and activities make it fun. Firm, fair discipline and challenging learning experiences in the academic program throughout the year help each student reach his or her potential. The school year ends with a week-long 9th grade class trip to Alaska. The Alaska trip allows students to reflect on the growth of their relationships and learning over their time at HCA. This event is designed to give the 9th grade students closure to their junior high experience and to challenge them toward Godly living in the future.
